In a recent blog post we explained that our pita is sold blast-frozen, and today we would like to tell you about how you can defrost it so it’s ready to use.
Fortunately, there are many different ways to defrost pita bread and you do not even need any special tools or gadgets.
If you have time, the best thing to do is take the bread out of the freezer and let it defrost on its own, at room temperature. Depending on the temperature where you are your pita bread should be perfectly defrosted in about 30 minutes max.
Do you have a microwave? If you do, then you can have some defrosted pita bread ready in one minute. Lower the microwave to its lowest power setting and put the bread directly inside. 60 seconds or maybe slightly less will be sufficient. You will have to experiment a bit the first few times you use this method as it will depend slightly on your microwave. If the pita bread blows up you’ve gone too far and you need to defrost it for less time.
A toaster can also be a great option when it comes to defrosting pita bread. Just put the frozen pita into your toaster and toast it for a few seconds. Again you will have to test this method out a few times to get it right but the end product does not disappoint!
If you are using our pita bread at your restaurant you may have a steam oven available. If you do have one of these, or an oven with a steam function, then you have a fantastic tool to defrost pita bread with. You just need 2 or 3 minutes steaming to have a pita bread which looks and feels as if it has been freshly baked. Try it!
Another option would be to use a food steamer. This is a very popular method amongst our catering clients as they may need to have pita bread on hand during an event so it’s ready to serve when they need it. A steamer doesn’t just defrost the pita but it also keeps it warm and in tip-top conditions. The resulting pita is soft and feels as if it has just come out of the oven.
If you are working at an event or restaurant which has a grill you have another great way to defrost pita bread. All you need to do is place the pita on the grill for a couple of minutes on each side and you will soon have a pita which is crunchy and delicious, ready to serve with meat, vegetables and sauces.
There are many benefits to working with blast frozen pita bread and in a future blog post we will tell you all why it is better than vacuum packed pita bread. It is definitely super convenient to always have some frozen pita in your freezer, ready to defrost whenever you need it. And even more so if it’s a pita like ours, which will bowl people over with its taste and texture – try it for yourself, you will not be disappointed.
